Sandvik Mobiles’ Heavy Range demonstrates maximum productivity
Rockbridge Construction Limited has invested in a heavy duty jaw and cone crusher from the Sandvik Construction Mobiles' HD range to tackle a granite processing application in Nigeria. This range of equipment has been specifically designed to suit the demands of hard rock applications with pioneering solutions driven by customers' needs.
Established in 1990, Rockbridge Construction Limited is a premier construction company based in Nigeria, specializing in infrastructure, highway and bridge projects. The company has ongoing projects in several locations across the region including Lagos, Kaduna, Kano, Benue and Kogi amongst others, in addition to its company headquarters in Abuja. Rockbridge's emergence in the industry is based on it possessing the skills and specialist engineering know-how to tackle a diverse range of challenging projects for a large network of contacts in Nigeria and overseas. Its clientele ranges from federal and state governments, to the oil industry and private sector.
For one of its most recent projects Rockbridge required heavy duty machinery to process material from a granite quarry. Its requirements included not only processing a very tough material, but also to produce a wide range of product sizes. Sandvik Construction Nigeria advised Rockbridge of the benefits gained through using mobile technology, and from the HD Range in particular. This machinery has been specifically designed to meet the demands of heavy duty applications and is able to handle virtually any climate conditions due to the superior level of construction and through the use of only components of the highest quality. Having previously made investments in the Premium range of mobile equipment, the company was already familiar with the quality and innovation Sandvik offers.
Rockbridge began operation with an UJ440i HD jaw and UH440i HD cone crusher working alongside a QA451 triple deck Doublescreen that are all capable of handling the most difficult of infeed material. The rock to be processed in this case is a demanding granite, which is often used in construction projects due to its durability, and in this particular application as crushed stone base, binder and wearing asphalt mixes with concrete.
The UJ440i heavy duty jaw crusher has proved to be the ideal piece of equipment for Rockbridge as it features the Sandvik CJ412 jaw and possesses a feed opening of 1200 x 830mm / 48 x 32". This facilitates a broad range of hydraulically adjustable CSS (Closed Side Settings) of between 100 to 275mm / 4 to 11". Additionally the UJ440i may be fitted with a wide choice of different jaw plates making it an ideal solution for a wide range of different applications.
Further maximizing its productivity the UJ440i includes a wealth of equipment fitted onboard. This includes a heavy duty and abrasion resistant hopper which can handle heavy feed material with ease. The vibrating grizzly feeder (available on the comfort and classic models), or pan feeder and live pre-screen (available on the trend models) can then process the material to be fed to the high performing jaw crusher. The main conveyor has a superior discharge height compared to similar models for excellent stockpiling capability, and features a heavy duty wide conveyor belt designed to handle high volumes of the toughest and most abrasive material.
Working alongside the jaw is the UH440i heavy duty cone crusher. This is equipped with the market leading Sandvik CH440 Hydrocone crusher, with a maximum feed size of 215mm / 8½". To ensure optimum productivity there is a choice of mantles and settings, which makes it suitable for a wide range of applications worldwide. The Hydrocone is one of the world's most technologically advanced cone crushers. It is hydraulically adjustable and controlled for ultimate flexibility, and has been designed to be maintenance friendly as it can be serviced entirely from above, thereby reducing operational downtime.
The CH440 cone possesses a deeper crushing chamber than other comparable machines so it is able to make light work of tough material like granite. Trouble free and optimal production is ensured by onboard high level intelligence through the ASRi system fitted as standard for controlling the cone. The operator is able to utilize ASRi for quick and easy adjustment of the CSS whilst the cone is in operation. The whole cone and shaft assembly raises and lowers when changing the gap setting. Both the jaw and cone units come fitted with a highly efficient Volvo engine and are operated via radio remote control for ease of operation.
In this particular Nigerian application, the jaw and cone are working alongside a QA451; the world's only triple deck Doublescreen. This is an ideal screening solution for working alongside the heavy range due to its large screening area. The QA451 utilizes the tried and tested Doublescreen technology but with a triple deck design, with the QA451 being designed to provide maximum productivity and massive stockpiling capabilities. It includes a fourth stockpiling conveyor which features both hydraulic raise / lower and hydraulic slew function to optimize the feed position when working in a train.
With the Sandvik train in operation Rockbridge is able to produce a wide variety of product sizes: 0-10mm, 10-16mm, 16-22mm and 0-50mm. The train demonstrates the flexibility and high production capacity of the Sandvik Construction Mobiles heavy machinery, and its ability to operate on tough material to produce a mixture of fines and larger sized material, with current production being an impressive 170 tonnes per hour.
Operations Manager, Daher Kawerma, from Rockbridge Construction explains why the heavy duty machinery has proven to be such a wise choice. "We've always found Sandvik's machines to be reliable, tough and ideal for our operations in Nigeria. The heavy range machinery is extremely reliable which is very important to us in keeping our operation going. The machines on this project have performed superbly and we are pleased with the inclusion of Volvo engines as they have excellent fuel economy, helping to reduce our operating costs. We are also impressed with the local support from Sandvik as they are always very helpful and on hand to offer support when required."
In addition to its mobile crushing and screening equipment Rockbridge Construction also owns a range of other Sandvik Construction equipment. This comprises of the CJ412, CS430 and CH440 crushers as well as DX700 drill rigs.
